Interface simplification?

The iGetter interface has raised much comment here and elsewhere. Personally I think it is ok, but could be better.

I hate the gawdy bar along the top with the logo and various search buttons. Apart from the one on the right, which could be relocated as an icon with the other buttons below, does anyone actually use these? The bar seems to me redundant: it takes up screen space and complicates an otherwise logical interface.

At the cost of complicating the Preferences yet further (and assuming that Presenta will not agree to scrap the bar altogether), I would like to see a new View pane, with options to show or hide (via checkboxes), the top button bar, Filters, and the other information columns. (Filters might also be revealed/hidden via a triangle like Transfer Details. Incidentally, I wish the filters settings were remembered between launches.)

What do others think?
