iGetter and Leopard/Safari 3 integration doesn't work well

I'm running Leopard and iGetter runs fine with one notable exception:

The "Download with iGetter" contextual menu item doesn't appear.

This actually looks like a problem with Safari 3.

When you right-click on a like, you notice that the word you've clicked on is highlighted. This leads me to believe that iGetter treats selected text like Download All instead of a single item.

There's no way that I can find to stop Safari3 from doing this.

Can anyone else help with this?

I've just installed Leopard and I've noticed the same thing. I've tried iGetter in Firefox too, and it doesn't seem to work at all - though to be honest I can't remember if it ever did.

I'd love to hear of a fix for this, just a small thing but irritating.

More Problems

I downloaded iGetter not to long after doing a clean leapord install and it doesn't work.

I can't paste links into the white space like I used to, and the web browser integration feature tries to pass to igetter but nothing shows up in the downloads window.

I've submitted a bug report to the iGetter team.

I'm hoping a new version will find a workaround for this.

Thank you for your posts. Currently we are working on a Leopard update of iGetter and we will release it as soon as possible. The current version 2.6.1 works fine on Leopard excluding the following functions:

1. All functions in the iGetter File menu that use the Open or Save As dialogs. Generally these functions are rarely used.
2. Contextual menus in iGetter don't appear. Note that all CM functions are located in the main menu too.
3. The contextual menu command "Download with iGetter" in Safari doesn't appear.

To report a problem not listed here please use our support form

Yes please, add the contextual menu as soon as possible. This of course does not prevent us from using iGetter, but it was a great thing and can

I've figured out my problem.

I can confirm that if you do it right than the current copy of iGetter (2.6.1) works under Leopard 10.5.

You have to open igetter then go to file New URL. And enter the address in manually (cut and paste). I really liked the old feature of just copying the url and clicking on the download white space and hitting the short cut for paste. But that doesn't work yet in Leapord.

Also. If you are like me and have read the recent magazine article bout securing mac's you may be using a user account without administrator privileges. This is interesting so pay attention.

If you installed the igetter app in an administrator account and are now in a non administrator account igetter might give you an error about not being able to access the save directory. This is because it's still set for the desktop of the administrator user (you don't have access to). So you need to go to preferences and change the default save location. IF YOU ONLY CHANGE THE SAVE LOCATION FOR A FILE IN YOUR QUE IT WON"T WORK! You have to delete the files in the cue and add them when the default path is correct.

Hope this helps others...

I really love the "import url list" feature but now in Leopard it's broken.
Please update your software, it has been weeks since Leopard was released.

Thanks in advance

Workaround for advanced users

Since Apple has limited InputManagers in Leopard only for the root user, with the expectation that they will stop InputManagers at all, the command "Download with iGetter" and some features that the iGetterIMBundle adds are unavailable in v2.6.1 on Leopard. We will try to avoid this limitation which is intentional and causes a serious work. So we can't promise a release date yet.

In the meantime, you can try:
1. You can directly drag and drop links on the iGetter dock icon.

2. Install Firefox ( with the FlashGot extension (

3. A workaround for the "Import URL list" function is to use TextWrangler to save your URL list files or the AppleScript that "Majenfa" posted here:

4. A workaround for the Safari's "Download with iGetter" CM command (for advanced users only): manually move the iGetterIMBundle to "/Library/InputManagers/" folder. Notice that you have to remove the iGetterIMBundle from the "/Library/InputManagers/" folder when you update to the next iGetter release. If you are unsure what the following commands do just wait the next release or try options 1 and 2.

To copy the iGetterIMBundle using the Terminal app (you may do the same thought the Finder as well):

4.1. Quit Safari.
4.2. Open your Terminal application (/Applications/Utilities/Terminal) and copy&paste the following lines one by one. Enter your admin/root password when prompted. Replace the <user> with your login name and "/Applications" with the path to the iGetter app:
sudo mkdir /Library/InputManagers
sudo rm -fr /Users/<user>/Library/InputManagers/iGetterIMBundle
sudo mv /Applications/iGetter\ 2.6.1/ /Library/InputManagers/
sudo chmod -R go-w /Library/InputManagers
sudo chown -R root:admin /Library/InputManagers
4.3. Log out and then log in.
4.4. The "Download with iGetter" command should appear in Safari.
sudo rm -fr /Library/InputManagers/iGetterIMBundle

Hello Came,
Is the problem reproducible? If so, could you give us some steps to reproduce it on our machines? You can use our support form as well ( For example the Gabriel's crash posted above occurs when "Download all with iGetter" command is used on a web page with multiple pictures on it.

I am having a completely different problem with 10.5.1 and iGetter.

Sometimes a download transfers to iGetter and sometimes it goes to Safari's download manager. No, it is not an Integration preference issue. All the boxes are ticked and the extensions that behave in the above manner are listed.

While it appears that whichever extension is directed to Safari's dl manager is random, I have noticed that .dmg extensions are far more common.

I installed 10.5 on a new hd and used the installer to transfer all the files from the 10.4 hd. Then updated to 10.5.1

Any ideas? TIA

Same problem as mentioned in the first post here - but on 10.4.9 and Safari 2.0.4...

iGetter's CM in Safari doesn't allow for an individual file (or a list of them) to be transferred into iGetter. If I would have to punch in every single URL I could also do that copying/pasting the links (.rar files mainly) into a new window (cmd c-t-v)...

Any solution for this? Have to download quite some files soon...

Thanks in advance!
